چکیده

by Eric W. Johnson With the development of improved fabrication processes, more responsibility is placed on circuit designers to develop circuits that are tolerant of fluctuations in the fabrication process. To achieve this higher reliability, designers must have access to actual data variations in the fabrication process. Historically, this process data has been collected from test measurements taken during the fabrication process and stored in a database. Although the data is available, it is unattractive to designers because the structure of manufacturing databases differs from the structure of design databases. The goal of this research was to develop a clean mechanism for integrating design data with manufacturing data. This goal was accomplished by identifying a technique to incorporate an external database into the task management system of a Computer Aided Design (CAD) framework. The technique was verified by incorporating a VLSI fabrication database into the Odyssey CAD framework.

Papyrus: A Structured History Database for VLSI Design Flow Management

The trend of VLSI CAD tool development evolves towards functionally specialized, methodology-dependent and technologydependent. Confusion can easily arise during the design process because of the proliferation of CAD tools and the mammoth amounts of design data. This is aggravated by the fact that different CAD tools are usually created by different vendors with different interface styles. As a...

Development of an Architectural Design Tool for 3 - D VLSI Sensors

Three dimensional integration schemes for VLSI have the potential for enabling the development of new high-performance architectures for applications such as focal plane sensors. Due to the high costs involved in 3-D VLSI fabrication and the fabrication complexity of 3-D integration, analysis of the design and process tradeoffs for a particular application is essential. An architectural and top...

An Extensible Object-Oriented Approach to Databases for VLSI/CAD

This paper describes an approach to the specification and modeling of information associated with the design and evolution of VLSI components. The approach is characterized by combined structural and behavioral descriptions of a component. Database modeling requirements specific to the VLSI design domain are considered and techniques t.o address them are described. An extensible object-oriented...

Semiconductor process design: representations, tools, and methodologies

A vision of the future is presented in which the design of semiconductor fabrication processes is an integral part of the design of application specific circuits. The circuit designer (particularly of analog and microelectromechanical devices and circuits) will no longer be restricted to processing specification solely via layout and mask information, but will also directly specify process para...

Reusing CAD Tools in Object Oriented Based Framework

The growing importance of VLSI is getting much attention. But the increasing complexity of VLSI also creates lots of problems for the computer scientists to work on. If there is no other new way to help the designers, the whole design process will get more difficult to maintain. That's the need for an object-oriented (OO) design framework for CAD world. Not only to develop new methods is needed...
